Dario Alves

Born Moncorvo, December 1940.

1965 completed General Painting Course at Porto Fine Arts School/ESBAP.

1960 to 1980 worked in the field of Graphic Design.

1973 finished Advanced Painting Course at ESBAP.

1976 began as lecturer at the School of Fine Arts (now the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto University), becoming Assistant Professor (1983), Senior Assistant Professor (1996), and Associate Professor (1999).

1984 to 1993 and 1996 to 2000, President of the Academic Board at the Faculty of Fine Arts.

1980 and 1986, scholarship from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to visit the Graphic Design Biennials in Poland, Czechoslovakia and Italy.

Painting Exhibitions since 1972 and his first solo exhibition in 1979.

1994, painted portrait of Dr. Mário Soares.

From 1994 to 2006, painted portraits of Rectors Lúcio Craveiro, Machado Santos and Victor Chaínho of the University of Minho, and portraits of Rectors Alberto Amaral and Novais Barbosa of the University of Porto. Also painted portrait of the President of Porto Polytechnic, Luís Soares.

Member of Puzzle Group.

Represented the Faculty of Fine Arts in the choice of the Portuguese design for the Euro coins.

In 1999 became Associate Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, a position he held when he retired in 2000
